Bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Albania
- On February 7, 2024, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama visited Luxembourg and met with the Prime Minister, Luc Frieden. The discussions focused, among other things, on the ratification of the protocol amending the tax convention between Albania and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg aimed at avoiding double taxation, as well as on the possibilities of strengthening bilateral relations in the field of tourism.
- On August 26, 2022, at the invitation of his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, former Prime Minister Xavier Bettel paid a visit to Albania. The visit was part of the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The discussions were marked by a mutual desire to strengthen these ties in the political, economic, and cultural fields.
Bilateral agreements
- "Convention aimed at avoiding double taxation and preventing tax evasion" (CONDI) and its Protocol: The legislative procedure was completed in June 2025. The convention has been officially in effect since January 1, 2026.
- Security agreement on the reciprocal protection of classified information between Albania and Luxembourg signed on June 25, 2018, and approved on the Luxembourg side by a law of October 26, 2019. The agreement entered into force for both parties on September 1, 2025.
- Signing of a 'Memorandum of Understanding' between Defense Minister Yuriko Backes and her counterpart, Niko Peleshi, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Albania, on the sidelines of the NATO Defense Ministers' meeting on February 15, 2024.
